If you're hunting for a cheap laptop that doesn't feel like a toy, this refurbished HP ProBook 445 G8 might be worth a look. It's selling for $267.99 on eBay through Newegg, and with promo code COUNTDOWN20, you're getting 33% off. That's a solid price for a machine with a Ryzen 5 5600U and 16GB of RAM.
What You Get for Under $270
The ProBook 445 G8 is a business-class laptop, which means it's built a bit tougher than your average consumer notebook. This configuration packs a Ryzen 5 5600U — a processor that's still plenty capable for everyday tasks — along with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The 14-inch FHD screen is standard fare, but it's fine for spreadsheets, browsing, and video calls.
Since it's refurbished, expect some cosmetic wear, but Newegg's refurbished units usually come in decent shape. You're also getting Windows 11 Pro, which is a nice bonus for anyone who needs BitLocker or remote desktop.
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600U (6 cores, 12 threads)
- 16GB DDR4 RAM (likely upgradeable)
- 256GB NVMe SSD
- 14-inch 1920x1080 display
- Windows 11 Pro preinstalled
Is This a Good Deal?
For under $270, you're getting a lot of laptop. The Ryzen 5 5600U alone typically commands more than that in a new machine. Comparable refurbished ProBooks often sell for $350 and up, so this is a genuine discount. The 16GB of RAM is the sweet spot for Windows 11 — no immediate need to upgrade.
The main trade-off is the 256GB SSD. It's enough for basic use, but if you store a lot of photos or games, you might want to swap in a larger drive later. The ProBook 445 G8 is generally easy to open up, so that's not a huge hurdle.
- Typical refurbished price: $350+
- 16GB RAM is ideal for multitasking
- 256GB SSD may fill up quickly
- Easy to upgrade storage and RAM
Who Should Buy This?
This laptop is perfect for students, office workers, or anyone who needs a reliable secondary machine. It'll handle web browsing, Microsoft Office, Zoom calls, and light photo editing without breaking a sweat. The build quality is better than most budget laptops, so it should survive being tossed in a backpack.
If you're a gamer or do heavy video editing, you'll want something with a dedicated GPU. But for general productivity, this ProBook is a steal.
- Great for students and remote workers
- Handles everyday productivity with ease
- Not for gaming or intensive creative work
Bottom Line
- Refurbished HP ProBook 445 G8 for $267.99 with code COUNTDOWN20
- Ryzen 5 5600U and 16GB RAM provide solid performance for everyday tasks
- 256GB SSD is the main limitation, but it's upgradeable
- Business-class build quality at a budget price
Common Questions
Is the promo code COUNTDOWN20 still active?
Promo codes can expire quickly. It's best to apply it at checkout to see if it's still valid. If not, the base price might still be a good deal.
What does refurbished mean for this laptop?
Refurbished units are pre-owned but have been tested and restored to working condition. They may have minor cosmetic blemishes, but should function like new. Newegg's refurbished products typically come with a warranty.
Can I upgrade the RAM and storage?
Yes, the ProBook 445 G8 has accessible RAM and storage slots, so you can add more memory or a larger SSD later.
