Walmart Slashes $500 Off This HyperX OMEN Gaming Laptop With RTX 5060

If you're in the market for a gaming laptop that won't make you choose between rent and frame rates, Walmart just dropped a pretty tempting offer. The HyperX OMEN 15.3-inch model is sitting at $1,199 right now, which is 29% off its usual price. That gets you a Ryzen 7 8745HX, an RTX 5060, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB SSD — a combo that should handle most modern titles without breaking a sweat. Let's break down whether this is actually a good buy or just a flashy discount.

What You're Actually Getting for $1,199

The HyperX OMEN 15 packs a Ryzen 7 8745HX, which is a solid octa-core chip for gaming and multitasking. Pair that with an RTX 5060 and you've got a machine that can push high frame rates at 1080p and handle 1440p with some settings tweaks. The 16GB of DDR5 RAM is the current sweet spot — enough for most games and background apps, though heavy multitaskers might eventually want 32GB. The 1TB SSD gives you plenty of room for a decent library before you need to start juggling installs.

The display is a 15.3-inch FHD+ IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh rate. That's a good match for the hardware — fast enough to take advantage of the GPU's output without driving the price into premium territory. IPS means decent viewing angles and color, though it won't blow you away with HDR or anything like that.

Is This a Good Deal?

At $1,199, this sits in a competitive spot. Gaming laptops with RTX 5060 graphics and a current-gen Ryzen 7 typically hover around $1,400–$1,600, so a $500 drop is nothing to sneeze at. The 29% discount is real, not a fake markdown from an inflated list price. That said, you'll occasionally see similar specs dip to $1,100 during major sales events, so if you're not in a hurry, it might be worth waiting for Black Friday or back-to-school promotions. But if you need a capable gaming laptop now, this is a fair price for the hardware.

One thing to keep in mind: HyperX is HP's gaming brand, and the OMEN line has a decent reputation for build quality and cooling. This isn't some no-name budget machine — it's a proper gaming rig with a brand behind it.

Who Should Buy This?

This laptop makes the most sense for someone who wants a single machine for gaming and everyday work. The 165Hz screen is great for fast-paced shooters, and the RTX 5060 will handle esports titles at high frame rates easily. It's also fine for content creation, light video editing, and programming, thanks to the strong CPU and fast DDR5 memory.

If you're a serious 4K gamer or need a laptop for heavy 3D rendering, you'll probably want to step up to an RTX 5070 or 5080 machine. But for 1080p and 1440p gaming, this is a well-balanced setup.

Bottom Line

• $1,199 for a Ryzen 7 8745HX + RTX 5060 gaming laptop is a solid value, especially with 16GB DDR5 and a 1TB SSD.
• The 165Hz FHD+ display is a good fit for the GPU — you can actually use the high refresh rate in most games.
• If you can wait for a major sale, you might save another $50–$100, but this is a fair price if you need a laptop now.
