Gaming laptops with the latest RTX 50-series cards are still pretty fresh, so seeing one drop under $1,200 catches my eye. Walmart currently has the HyperX OMEN 15.3-inch model marked down from $1,699 to $1,199 — a straight $500 savings. It's not the flashiest machine on the shelf, but the spec sheet hits a sweet spot for 1080p gaming without making you remortgage anything.
What You're Actually Getting for $1,199
The headline here is the RTX 5060. It's NVIDIA's current-gen mainstream GPU, and paired with AMD's Ryzen 7 8745HX, you're looking at a machine that can handle most modern titles at 1080p on high settings without breaking a sweat. The 165Hz refresh rate on that 15.3-inch FHD+ panel means fast-paced shooters will feel smooth — no complaints there.
16GB of DDR5 RAM is the standard sweet spot right now. It's enough for gaming plus a bunch of browser tabs, though if you're into heavy video editing or running virtual machines, you might wish for 32GB. The 1TB SSD is generous at this price point; plenty of laptops still ship with 512GB and call it a day.
Is This a Good Price?
For an RTX 5060 laptop, yes. Most RTX 5060 machines are still hovering around $1,300–$1,500 depending on the brand and build quality. Dropping to $1,199 puts this one in the value conversation. It's not a crazy doorbuster, but it's a legitimate $500 off the list price, and you're not sacrificing the GPU or the screen to get there.
The HyperX OMEN branding is interesting — OMEN is HP's gaming line, and HyperX is their peripheral brand. This looks like a collaboration model, which usually means decent build quality and a keyboard that doesn't feel like typing on wet cardboard.
Who Should Buy This
If you're shopping for a 1080p gaming laptop and want current-gen graphics without paying current-gen flagship prices, this is a solid pick. It'll chew through esports titles, most AAA games at high settings, and handle everyday productivity without drama.
If you need a 1440p or 4K screen, or you're doing serious content creation that benefits from more VRAM, you'll want to look higher up the stack. But for the majority of gamers who just want smooth frames at 1080p, this hits the mark.
- Great for 1080p gaming at high settings
- 165Hz screen is a nice bonus at this price
- 1TB SSD means no immediate storage upgrade needed
- 16GB DDR5 is fine for gaming, upgradeable if needed
Bottom Line
- $500 off makes this one of the better RTX 5060 laptop deals right now
- Ryzen 7 8745HX + RTX 5060 is a balanced combo for 1080p gaming

- Walmart availability may vary — check stock before getting too excited
Common Questions
Is the RAM upgradeable?
Most OMEN laptops have user-accessible RAM slots, but I can't confirm without the full service manual. 16GB DDR5 is usually enough for gaming, but if you need more, check the specific model's specs before buying.
Can this handle 1440p gaming?
The RTX 5060 is primarily a 1080p card. You can push 1440p in lighter titles, but for demanding games you'll want to stick to 1080p to keep frame rates high.
Does it come with a warranty?
Walmart typically includes the manufacturer's standard warranty. HP/OMEN usually offers a one-year limited warranty on new laptops, but double-check the product page for specifics.
